Your First Lesson
What to Expect?
Every student we work with is different, so lessons are always tailored to your goals and learning style. Generally, here’s what a typical lesson looks like:
1. Warm Up Every lesson starts with warm-up exercises designed for your instrument and skill level. For vocalists, that means getting your voice loose and ready. For piano students, it means scales, finger exercises, or technique drills. Warm-ups aren’t busywork – they build the foundation of technique that your music-making is built on.
2. Work on Music You Love The heart of every lesson is applying what you’re learning to real music. We’ll work through songs and pieces in the style of your choosing, focusing on technique, interpretation, and expression.
3. Build Complementary Skills Lessons tackle the bigger picture. This might mean music theory, ear training, sight reading, performance confidence, acting for singers, or learning how your instrument fits into a band or ensemble setting.
4. Leave with a Plan When the lesson wraps up, we’ll set practice goals tailored to your schedule and objectives. Consistent, focused practice between lessons is where the real growth happens – and we’ll make sure you always know exactly what to work on before we meet again.
