Carolynn Schmahl, owner and instructor at CMS Music Studio, has built a successful and active career as a musician, educator and performer in Southern California. Originally from San Jose, Carolynn received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from Chapman University’s Hall-Musco Conservatory of Music. Her teaching career has impacted the lives of countless students for the past eleven years as a voice and piano instructor. Her students have won awards in competitions such as the Musical Theater Competitions of America (MTCA), the Spirit of the MACY Awards, and the National PTA Reflections Program for singing, acting, and composition. Carolynn has designed a number of educational summer music programs focusing on music theory, composition, history, and vocal technique. In addition, she has served as vocal director for several local productions, including Annie Jr., Honk Jr., Seussical Jr., A Christmas Story, James and the Giant Peach Jr., Bye Bye Birdie, Shrek: The Musical, The Addams Family, Into the Woods, The Little Mermaid Jr., and Spongebob: The Musical Jr. Her students have gone on to collegiate performance programs where she continues to be a mentor to them as they each pursue their professional dreams. In addition, Schmahl freelances as a session singer and is a staff cantor at St. Kilian Catholic Church. Any day she gets to make music is a good day!
